Needs changes. This template uses 1 thing(s) that n8n 3.0 removes: Read Binary File. 1 breaking item(s) found. Static check, last run 2026-10-19.

What this workflow does

This workflow has 9 nodes and runs manually, when you click “Execute workflow”. It uses only n8n's built-in nodes.

How it runs

Trigger: Manually, when you click “Execute workflow”.

  1. Setup - Define file paths (Edit Fields (Set)): sets 2 fields: path_to_revit_converter, revit_file
  2. Extract - Run Revit converter (Execute Command): runs a shell command on the n8n host
  3. Check - Did extraction succeed? (If): checks a condition and branches into true / false
  4. Error - Show what went wrong (Edit Fields (Set)): sets 2 fields: error_message, error_code
  5. Success - Create Excel filename (Edit Fields (Set)): sets 1 field: xlsx_filename
  6. Extract - Read Excel file from disk (Read Binary File): uses Read Binary File
  7. Extract - Parse Excel to data (Spreadsheet File): reads or writes a spreadsheet file (legacy node)
  8. On the standard 3D View (If): checks a condition and branches into true / false

Before you upgrade to n8n 3.0

1 thing in this workflow is removed in n8n 3.0. Fix it before you upgrade:

  • Read Binary File in Extract - Read Excel file from disk: replace with Read/Write Files from Disk.
  • Also check Spreadsheet File: Convert to File / Extract from File.
Removed in 3.0Replace with
Read Binary File
Extract - Read Excel file from disk
Read/Write Files from Disk

From the author

Convert a Revit model to Excel and parse it into structured items ready for downstream ETL. This minimal template runs a local RvtExporter.exe, checks success, derives the expected rvt.xlsx filename, reads it from disk, and parses it to data items in n8n.…
